Avocado ice cream is a unique and delicious treat that combines the creamy texture of avocados with the sweetness of cream.

I absolutely fell in love with avocado ice cream the very first time I tried it. It was at a Farmer's Market in rural South Carolina, an area known for its fresh ripe peaches, certainly not avocado. The taste was exceptionally sweet and the texture extra creamy.

Ice cream is so far removed from the days when a pint with chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry stripes was considered gourmet. Now people have gotten so inventive. One of my most favorite :far out" flavors is Old Bay Vanilla from a creamery here in North Carolina called Cold Hearted Gelato.

Did you know that an avocado is actually a fruit? According to the Avocados from Mexico website, an avocado is actually a berry specifically because it comes from the ovary of a flowering plant. My guess is that we often confuse it for a vegetable because it lacks the juicy sweetness we associate with fruits (which is exactly why I have included avocado on this all vegetable website).

So with that being said, avocado ice cream makes a little more sense. But avocados are so unbelievably versatile. I have used them to make avocado pasta sauce as well as avocado fudge.
Avocados are super creamy in texture so mixing them with heavy cream and sugar makes an excellent base for ice cream.

This avocado ice cream can also be spiced up a bit with a sprinkling of some paprika (just a light sprinkling). Or drench the ice cream in chocolate syrup and sprinkles.
Avocados are loaded with the essential healthy fats our bodies need so go for that extra scoop!
